WORLDSPIRIT RELEASED

artist_prayer.jpg

I am extremely excited to announce the release of the WORLDSPIRIT DVD!

The image above is a still image of Alex Grey and I performing live. It is taken from the first chapter of WORLDSPIRIT named "Artist's Prayer" , the first of 7 chapters in this 1 hour video. Magnetic Presence, the company that funded and produced the project, has generously offered the entire 5 minute section available only on IN:
Artist's Prayer video - WORLDSPIRIT

Artist's Prayer touches on much of the ideas of Integral art - that art can be a spiritually transformative experience for both the artist and the audience. Alex Grey's words in this Artist's Prayer section of WORLDSPIRIT, combined with my music and video editing, makes a suggestion that art is sacred - making art = making prayer, and with this intention and consciousness, we invoke spiritual visions into this world - to help keep the vision clear and focused for a more positive and evolved existence for all beings in the universe. If our creativity becomes our own spiritual discipline in improving ourselves together with the outer world, this is how true freedom, peace, and harmony is achieved.

Director's note:
WORLDSPIRIT's inception and spark was born on May 23 2003. On this date, I organized a small underground party in San Francisco to help pay for licensing one of Alex Grey's paintings for the cover of my album "Faces of Epiphany", and to also raise money for the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors.
The event sold out in 3 days, and what first started as a regular benefit party and Alex Grey lecture, spontaneously turned into a live multimedia collaboration between myself and Alex Grey. Literally 4 days before the event I suggested over the phone that I write some music while Alex perform spoken word of his poetry along with his slide show in a storytelling format. Alex said "funny, I was thinking the same thing..." . Arranging the basic story progression with Alex, I composed 4 sections, - "the trip", "Loving", "Buddha Embryo", and "The Vast Expanse". These were extremely simple loops that I threw together at the very last moment - brief sketches of soundscapes to assist in the loose ideas Alex and I were coming up with over the phone, in the final hours leading up to the party.
We did the show, without rehearsal, on May 23rd, 2003. Not only could we not believe that we sort of pulled it off - we got an overwhelming reception from almost everyone in the audience. Eric Kalabacos, a friend of mine whom I luckily invited to the show, was so taken by this night, he decided to sponsor and fund this concept to bring it to the next level. This is what later became to be known as WORLDSPIRIT.

The WORLDSPIRIT event occurred on Dec 12, almost 7 months later. With much more preparation and elaborate production (3 screens of animated projections choreographed to the 1 hour story and music, a second stage of live performance artists), and a much larger audience (1200+) - Alex and I got up on stage to give it our best shot... one chance in a live setting to create a beautiful experience, and capture it live to make a movie out of it. The story of how WORLDSPIRIT came about is just mind blowing - especially because I had no "big plan" on May 23, 2003. Events leading up to this first night were so fast, that I didn't really have time to think, other than act on my creative instinct and emotions... and a simple desire to collaborate with a great artist to inspire others (and myself). The one time that i DONT use my brain, ends up creating a spark that exploded, and ignited a dream project beyond anything that I could have imagined...!! That damn brain... what is it good for? When i shut it off,... life happens! Fancy that!
The WORLDSPIRIT DVD is a true miracle that one can now hold in your hands. I am truly honored to have worked with both Alex Grey, and Eric Kalabacos. I am truly blessed to have been given the opportunity for something like this to manifest. I am in awe of the message the universe is sending, by the mere existence of this DVD that can now be shared with others.

"A beautiful, brilliant, exhilarating multimedia presentation of sacred art and music. Dazzling from beginning to end, and deeply moving throughout. Highly recommended!"
